Marty Shelton started TCAR 16 years ago and continues to serve as the Pastor. He is 46 years old and was formerly a full time Youth Pastor for 2 years. Marty ran track/cross country at the University of Tennessee for one year and continued running at Morehead State University where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Marty has also been working on his Masters of Divinity degree through Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also currently teaches at a seminary in Honduras where TCAR is actively involved in church planting. He has also worked in the past with the Tennessee Baptist Convention as a presenter/teacher of Basic Training for Church Planters to educate and equip new church planters as they go out to start new works across the state.
Marty has a strong passion for the local church and it’s mission to reach out to friends and neighbors and take the message of Jesus Christ to the world. He has a laid back communication style that will make you feel at home, but will challenge and inspire you to take your next step toward God.
Marty met Nickie after he graduated from college and have been married for 20 years. They have two sons: Cole, who is 12 years old, and Cale who is 5 years old. They have also opened their family to a little girl named Amber that they took in at birth who is now 4 years old. Family is very important to Marty and Nickie and the church. Nickie serves part time as the Children’s Director and believes that Sunday morning at TCAR should be the best time of a child’s week. Nickie has an Associates degree from Walter State Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Carson Newman College.
